New York LEED Certification – A way for greener New York

The New York LEED Certification is a program to certify construction professionals who are up to date in procedure and practices of constructing green buildings in New York. The certification is awarded by the Green Building Certification Institute. Earlier individuals had to sit for one exam to achieve the LEED AP designation. Now the exam has been developed to encompass three tiers which mean interested individuals need to sit for a series of exams to get LEED accredited. One who passes the first tier exam is awarded the LEED Green Associate certificate. The output of the second tier exam is the LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) which in turn has set of five exams to be passed to receive accreditation. LEED requires every candidate to successfully pass the examination in order to be accredited as a LEED GA or a LEED AP. Although training is provided to these candidates but enough time should be given for them to prepare for the exam. The LEED Exam Prep allows the candidates to prepare for their exams with a good number of study material and online preparatory test papers. The Scores for LEED exam range between 125 and 200. The minimum passing score is 170. It is going to be a tough paper with tough concepts.

The paper is divided into levels and the complicated questions carry more weightage in marks when compared to easy questions. However, each exam is weighed differently. The test contains multiple choice questions with multiple answer options. There are no partial marks for a part of the answer being correct. The entire answer has to be answered and it has to be correct. Every question needs to be answered in order to reach the 170 mark. LEED which is an acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design is an international standard for certifying a building as a green building. LEED Certification for standardized buildings

It is mandatory that the building structure meets certain criteria set by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). The candidates who obtain a LEED certification are expected to inspect the buildings and confirm whether they meet standards like energy and water saving, reduction in greenhouse gases, better indoor and outdoor air quality, etc. There are three levels of Accreditation that are offered by LEED through an examination. The first level being the Green Associate, the second is LEED AP and the third LEED Fellow. The Green associates are those candidates with technical background and who have a basic understanding of green buildings and their operations.

For anyone who wants to become an Accredited Professional they have to first qualify as Green Associates. The LEED AP is designed for advanced candidates. There are various specializations in the building that are offered at this level. They are Building Design and Construction, Interior Design and Construction, Operations and Maintenance, Homes and Neighborhood development. These specializations will be further divided into more detailed aspects. The candidates at this level are expected to study a lot because that topics involved are huge. The candidates are first required to write an exam for the Green Associate followed by the specialty exam for LEED AP.

The final LEED Certification is for a LEED Fellow. This is the highest ranked position. These candidates have years of experience and are well equipped with the building knowledge. They are much ahead of a Green Associate or an Accredited Professional. Dallas LEED Green Associate for better building projects

The professionals need to have the basic credentials to qualify as Green Associates. The first exam is the LEED Green Associate exam and the Specialty exam based on LEED AP specialties.

The specialties are LEED AP Building Design and Construction, LEED AP Homes, LEED AP Interior Design and Construction, LEED AP Neighborhood Development and LEED AP Operations and Maintenance. The candidate has to pass the LEED Green Associate Exam and provide professional documentations or experience that the he or she is involved in an active LEED Project for over a year or within the last three years.

The candidates have to undergo a Credentialing Maintenance Program where by they have to take 15 hours of continuing education and 3 hours in LEED specific topics. The candidates have to then pass the LEED AP specialty exam wherein the candidates have to maintain a Credentialing Maintenance Exam with 30 hours of continuing education in primary LEED specialty, 6 hours in secondary specialty. The curriculum is the same as the basic program.

After the end of the program the candidate will be well versed with knowledge in green design, construction, operations and maintenance of a building. In the later part of their careers they can choose a particular wing in the Building Industry and become proficient in the same.
